What are chain slings?

Chain slings are lifting devices comprised of a chain and various types of hooks, links, or attachments. They are used to safely lift and transport heavy loads in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and logistics.

What grades does Top Lifting have in its product range?

G80 and G100 Lifting Chain slings are available. Sizes from 4mm to 32mm.

What is the difference between the individual grades?

The difference between the individual grades of chain slings is that the load capacity increases with increasing grade while the material thickness remains the same.

What is the tilt angle and how is it measured?

The tilt angle is determined by the degrees between an imaginary vertical line and the chain itself. The load-carrying capacity of a chain sling changes depending on the respective tilt angle of a suspended load: the greater the tilt angle, the lower the load capacity. Tilt angles exceeding 60° are not permitted! If different tilt angles occur with multiple leg chain slings (asymmetrical load distribution), only the load capacity of the leg with the largest tilt angle may be used as a basis. In individual cases, shortening hooks and compensating rockers may be helpful.



What is the spread angle?

In contrast to the tilt angle, the spread angle measures the angle between two chain legs (maximum 120°).




What is the working length of a chain sling?

The working length L describes the length of a chain sling plus its fitting parts, as shown in the following diagram.

Why do the hooks always point outward?

The hook openings must always point outwards to prevent the load from being unhooked unintentionally.

How to Release a Jammed Ratchet Strap

When we use the ratchet strap , maybe we will meet the ratchet strap jammed. So we need to know why it jammed and how to release the jammed ratchet strap. How Ratchet Straps Jam and Get Stuck There are three reasons for ratchet straps jam or get stuck Not disengaging the ratchet all the way: The gear stays locked in place until you unlock it. Winding too much strap on the spool: This requires a little muscle and finesse to unjam. Needs a little lube: Happens with ratchet straps that don't work smoothly from being outside. How to solve these problems? 1) Ratchet Strap Isn't Fully Disengaged and Won't Release When the ratchet is fully closed it's locked into place and both pawls are engaged. When it is partially open both pawls are mostly engaged. You need to get the ratchet fully open in order for it to release. You do this by disengaging the two pawls. First, you need to squeeze the little handle to disengage the manual pawls.

What is the STF-Standard Tension Force? The abbreviation STF “Standard Tension Force” stands for the pre-tensioning force also called “Normal Tensioning Force”, which describes the force of the lashing strap. Put simply, with an STF value of 350 daN: you pull or push on a ratchet lever with exactly 50 daN (SHF) and can lift/move a weight of 350 kg with this force. The main reason for high pre-tensioning forces are the high-quality products, in this case, the ratchet and the lashing strap, which have been optimized for your application. The STF value to be achieved is defined by the European standardization: STF = min. 0.1 x LC and max. 0.5 x LC All products in our assortment of cargo safety are tested according to DIN EN 12195-2. STF – Standard Tension Force according to DIN EN 12195-2, always applies to a lashing belt system (ratchet, webbing and end fittings). The webbing, its length, composition, elongation, sewing and material thickness have a very large influence on the STF value
